Daufuskie Island has no road access to the mainland. It is accessible only by passenger ferry or water taxi. The ferry ride is an experience in-and-of-itself, so be sure to be on the look out for pelicans, terns and dolphins. Two of the best options for the ferry rides are below.
Daufuskie hosts several authentic low-country restaurants. Although there are no grocery stores on the island, multiple grocery deliveries service the island. Additionally, the island farmer's market, Wesley's Market, is open from 10:00am – 1:30pm every Saturday. Usually you will find fruits, vegetables, fresh seafood, and locally prepared favorites.

Golf carts are the primary transportation on Daufuskie Island. In Melrose Plantation, where Captain Monroe House is located, only electric golf carts are permitted. We can direct you to golf cart rental companies who will ensure a cart(s) will be waiting at the house for you when you arrive. Otherwise there are multiple companies which rent golf carts on the island.
Island transportation will get you to and from the house on arrival and departure days as golf carts are not made to handle the weight of all of the luggage and people. Some options for island transportation are below.
